In January 2009, Beijing Hanjian Heshan Pipeline Co., Ltd. successfully won the bid for the prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) procurement for the North Main Trunk Line of the Shanxi Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion to Shanxi Project, with a contract value of 528 million yuan. This project was the second in China's PCCP industry to have a single contract value exceeding 500 million yuan, following the Beijing Section Emergency Water Supply Project of the Central Route of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project. The project was completed and began water supply in September 2011.
As a major national base for coal and power energy, the cities of Datong and Shuozhou had per capita water resources of only 322 cubic meters, far below the national average. The North Main Trunk Line, as the second phase of the Wanjiazhai Yellow River Diversion to Shanxi Project, aimed to alleviate the severe water shortage in northern Shanxi. The pipeline starts from the Xiatuzhai diversion sluice in Pianguan County, passes through Pinglu, Shuozhou, Shanyin, Huairen, and ends at the Qiangkuangbao Reservoir in the southern suburbs of Datong, with a total length of 161.1 kilometers. It is designed to divert 560 million cubic meters of water annually, with an estimated investment of 4.86 billion yuan.
The project could generate 40 billion yuan in new industrial output value and meet the domestic water needs of 4.5 million people, playing a supportive and safeguarding role in improving local living standards and sustaining economic development.
